Seattle Duck Tour
Does anyone know anything about the "Duck" a vehicle shaped like a boat that tours the Seattle area?

Here's their website:
http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com/
But beware, some consider it a tourist trap and overrated ...and expensive!:

Thanks.

I've been on the tour - it's fun for kids. I enjoyed it too. I don't remember the cost - but I would probably do it again. It is kind of goofy and embarrassing - but hey, lots of things you do with kids are goofy and embarrassing!
As you can see by some of those reviews, Seattlites are the friendliest people in the world!

The Duck tour ... I gotta ask ...
I'm just curious what the locals think of the amphibious vehicles tearing up and down the streets of Seattle ... and around Lake Union, too. My wife and I actually got a more thorough tour of the city on one of the Seattle Tours buses, but we also decided to do the Ducks on a whim, and it was a great time. The driver was hilarious ... although I don't know how it's humanly possible to keep up that level of zaniness all day long, every day.
I'm sure there are few things that mark you as a tourist in Seattle more than being on the Duck tour. Lots of people were waving at us enthusiastically as we drove by ... but I figure that means one of three things:
1. They were tourists, too.
2. They were locals being friendly to the out-of-towners.
3. They were outwardly smiling but quietly saying to themselves, "Thanks for pumping more money into our local economy, suckers."
Like I said, it makes no difference to me, because the whole thing was a hoot. Great time. I'm just wondering how the locals view the whole thing, especially since I've seen at least one tourist guide just rip into the Ducks mercilessly. Are they viewed as something obnoxious, something the locals just ignore, or something else?
And for anyone who hasn't been to Seattle and wants to see the city ... take the Ducks tour for the experience, but find yourself a more thorough tour, too, like the Seattle Tours by bus.

Ducks
I don't live in Seattle, but do live in the Boston area and we've had Ducks in the city (and on the river) for years. They are fun! We locals think they are great and we always wave and quack at the tourists just because it is - as you said - a hoot! I had a friend visiting for the first time this spring and my kids and I took her on a Duck tour - hadn't done it in many years and we had as much fun as she did. I recommend it to anyone!

Many cities have these Duck tours. We were just in Austin, TX and saw the Duck tour buses riding around. We never got a chance to do it in Austin with the kids but I would think that the one in Seattle would be fairly interesting because there is a lot to see.

Ahem...they are not drivers, but rather Duck Captains.
My visting parents and their grandkids all really enjoyed the tour, including the nonstop corny jokes (although the aforementioned Seattle Tours is much more informative). I went along for the ride as a local, keeping my cap pulled down low, hoping that nobody I knew would see and recognize me.

Lol. There are times the blaring music and noise are less than amusing but for the most part it doesn't bother me. If people on the tour wave, I've waved back and played along.

Y'know, some people -- duck captains, real estate agents, professors of molecular biology -- some people were just born to perform for an audience, don't you think? Interesting karmic choices...
