Is there any place in this city that sells this dish? I have a friend who is ill. She lives here, and I would like to send her some. I live half a continent away, so I can't make them for her, as I wish I could.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Fred Meyer - Gift Cards (http://www.fredmeyer.com/shop_online/Pages/gift_cards.aspx - broken link)

Send her some flowers and a card that says, "I wanted to get you some shrimp and grits, but perhaps this will come in just as handy."

The sentiment was known, the items can be purchased if they like, or they can use it to buy some shoes. Or something.

I don't know of any Southern restaurants off the top of my head. That stuff is best when fresh anyways. Being from Georgia, I know of a couple of different ways we've done them .. Boiled shrimp, with grits on the side, Boiled shrimp, inside the grits, and deep fried shrimp, with grits on the side. I suppose you could also bury the deep fried ones inside the grits as well. Kind of gets the crispy batter all wet though, defeating the purpose of frying them in the first place. As someone who buries his eggs, bacon and sausage in grits, though... well, let's just say I've got a lot of experience with covering things with grits.

Speaking personally, I'd rather have the gift card. Then I could use it to buy something I needed. I'd still appreciate the sentiment, though.

Edit.

Now, you've got me wanting shrimp and grits. ARGH.
