America's rainiest cities! Hint: It's not Seattle.

The Southeast dominated the most rainy list, while the Pacific Northwest never enters the list until Olympia, Washington pops up at number 24.

Hey Shadow, post that over in the "General U.S." forum if you're still here and have the time. Others might be interested.

I'm still here and I've got the time but last time I cross-posted something the moderators flipped out, should we ask someone to move it or what?

There are lies.
Damn lies.
And statistics.
And that survey is a perfect example of Mark Twain's wit.
That proclimation is based on the total amount of ANNUAL rainfall. Seattle doesn't get the heavy, deluge-driven storms of more moist, tropical climates.
What we do get is a relatively constant drizzle most months, coupled with a damp marine cloud cover. If you read further down in the article, it does say that Olympia had the most rainy days.

I remember days when I lived near Boston where it would be a slow patter of rain all day, the rhythm of the rain was comforting, I would stay in and read an entire book on days like that...
Here in Florida and in Texas the rain usually blows over pretty quickly.

Lynnwood gets it worse than Seattle.
Also this isn't about cloud cover, it's about rain. People only seem to bring up Twain's quote when it benefits them, then they go ahead and rely on those statistics again when they are back on their side.
Not making accusations but it's a very steady pattern I see on most forums.

The thing for me is that Seattle "feels" like it gets a lot of rain because it's so damp and wet. A lot of us have known that Seattle doesn't top the list of the rainiest places. However, for me, Seattle seems rainy because it's wet, damp, gray, and when it does rain, it's usually a very cold rain.
Notice how the top places for rain are all in the south. So at least it's a "warm" rain. And their rains usually come in a torrent. In other words, when it rains it RAINS. I wonder if one were to analyze the days of rain for each city if the results would be the same. I'm thinking Seattle might score higher on the scale if that were the case.

Hmmm I don't think anyone here has actually said the AMOUNT of rain is the problem. It's the extended days of grey, drizzly, cloudy. It mists and drizzles all day, for MONTHS.
Does it add up to a ton of parcipitation? Not really. But it does add up to a heck of a lotta days without seeing the sun.
