I cant believe how many people complain about Seattle's weather. Im so annoyed that the past few days I hear so many people around here be so obsessed about how sunny the past few days and how they make it sound as if Seattle is never sunny and that sunny weather can solve anybody's problems and bring somebody happiness or a location's problems which is far from the truth. Life is so much more than just some sunny weather(And I actually like sunny weather) . Im just annoyed by how some people perceive Seattles weather/climate in general
Im glad that there are still a lot of people though who dont see the weather/climate in Seattle being that bad and some people actually loving how the weather/climate is like here a lot of the time. There are also others who do feel negative about how the weather/climate is here but still feel like the positives of this area far outweighs the negative. From my experience, more people seem to love Seattle and the area more than people hating it. Washington state is one of the fastest growing states in America(I think its 4th or 7th) and Washington state has the second or third highest population than any other state in Western America(other than California and Arizona. So Im glad there are many people in Seattle/Western Washington/The Pacific Northwest region get negatively delusional about the weather/climate.But I still find too many people being negatively delusional about it and just not seeing its not really that bad.Honestly, the worse thing about the weather/when it is cloudier is how some people complain and obsses about it and get negatively delusional about how the weather is here and then blame the weather here for why something related to their life sucks and then ruining it for everybody else.
Seattle to me seems like its as cloudy as some people say during November-February. There can be days and weeks where it can be cloudy and rainy during this time period. However, when the weather is like that the area is usually comfortably mild compared to other places in America and sometimes people dont even have to wear a winter coat during most of the winter. The air and water quality is at its best when Seattle is at its cloudiest/rainiest and was some of the best air quality/water quality for a city in all of America. I like how green and lush it is here. I like how Seattle feels even more laid back than it already is when the weather is like this. I dont feel like Seattle is gloomy and depressing at all when the weather is like this(unless when certain people complain and act weak about it when its really not a big deal). There can be beauty and positive things to be found during cloudy/rainy weather as well.
And even during this time(November-February) there can be times when its sunny. December 2009, there were many days where it was sunny and on average that is the second cloudiest/rainiest month of the year. This February there were many sunny days as well. March is having some sunny days so far as well.
During April/May-October Seattle can actually be quite a very sunny place. Its an exaggerated myth how people say its always cloudy/rainy/drizzly 9 months of the year and then theres 3 months of sun in the summer. How absurd! I heard some people exaggarate how the weather is here as this urban myth to prevent more people moving and overpopulating this area and realizing how it is a myth. When I was age 14-16 I literally thought Seattle was this place that was cloudy and rainy non stop and was this depressing place where everyone was suicidal but i found out how its so obviously not true and many people are happy being in this area.Im so happy I live here and moved here from New York City.
I find Seattle's weather to be great compared to other areas of the U.S. Seattle usually never gets too cold(below 30 degrees) or too hot(above 90 degrees). Seattle is one of few places in America to not have summers with ridiculously hot weather. Seattle doesnt have to deal with thunderstorms most of the time and never has to deal with tornadoes or hurricanes. Seattle almost never has to deal with blizzards and ice storms. I would HATE being in a place like Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, or Texas where for months in a row it can be 100-110+. Sure it might be sunny then, but how many people there can actually enjoy the sun during that time and being outside? In America, many places with the highest pollution are in warmer/sunnier/and or drier places. In places like Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas, I wouldnt just have to deal with the psychotic heat but also the horrible pollution for weeks and months in a row with the lack of greenery and trees!
Some of the states with the highest crime are sunnier/warmer/ and or drier states like Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. Nevada has the highest crime rate in America out of all US States! Arizona and New Mexico are in the top 5. The highest suicide rates for states can be found in state such as Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and so on. Washington state is actually in the middle as well as Seattle in the city rankings. Las Vegas has the highest suicide rate out of all major us cities. Most of the states with the least crime and with the most healthy citizens are in the colder/wetter/cloudier places in a lot of cases. Actually the states with the lowest life expectancy rates, highest cancer rates, and other high ill health rate statistics are mostly in the southwestern states/southeastern states and states in the appalachia region. Do you know why? Probably for a lot of people there, they think that sunny/warm weather is all they need for their health and then they dont take care of their health as much. Washington state actually has one of the highest life expectancies out of all US states and lowest cancer rates and ranked high on quality of life etc.
Also, many Americans all over the country have nutrient deficiencies of all types such as Vitamin E(only 5-10% of Ameircans of the daily recommended intake) Potassium(5-10% as well) Magnesium(50%) and so on. Someone can get a Vitamin D deficiency even if they live in a place that is sunny a lot. Why? Because Vitamin D cant be absorbed as easily or absorbed at all without Calcium Magnesium and Phosphorus. And for someone to get vitamin d from sun exposure they have to be outside getting direct sun exposure(like staring close to the sun and feeling the sun rays on themselves) for at least 15 minutes twice a week. I know so many people who dont stay outside enough even when it is sunny. Someone can get vitamin d in a pill and it can be absorbed as easily as well. Its actually recommended by nutrition experts to take nutrient/vitamin pills and supplements. Seattle has one of the highest life expectancy rates out of all US cities in America and rated one of the "fittest cities".
I can elaborate further on why cloudy/rainy weather isnt really that bad and places that are more cloudier/rainier than others not having to be "gloomy and depressing."
So yeah, in a nutshell, Im defending Seattle's weather/climate and saying its not really that bad with the negatives about it and that this weather/climate can actually be great for many.

Wow, this post should be put in "The Seattle Times" newspaper or something

Feel better now? Being that Seattle is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, I'm sure a lot of people don't care about the weather either way.
Are you being sarcastic?0.o I just wanted to write an informative post about the weather/climate here and its misconceptions. I dont regret I wrote it that long. In general, I have very explicit and informed opinions about many things, definitely not just what i wrote in this thread.
Trying to be helpful here. If you want people to read your posts and feel that they got something out of them:
1.Don't immediately declare that you've just started a very informative thread. Let people decide if they feel informed.
2. Bold and underlined? Calm down. We're talking about the weather. If the entire post is bold and underlined, people are going to think that you're a nutjob, and will be disinclined to respond because they'll feel that you're not interested in a discussion because you know it all already.
Ok, but I dont know why you sound defensive and angry.
And I am calm. I underlined and put things in bold because I knew this entry was long and if someone didnt have enough time, I wanted the person to see the main points in my thread. I guess I should have changed the title and wording a bit and it would have made a difference.
And wow, so you decided to attack my thread without reading the information it offers? And before you commented on this and before I created this thread, I wrote on the "How would you rate Seattles urbanness" thread and replied to something you wrote a response to the "Why isnt Seattle considered a world class city"thread in the "How would you rate Seattles urbanness" thread and I feel insulted that you decided to comment this thread, attack me on this thread, and not respond to the comment I left on the "How would you rate Seattles urbanness" thread" and a response in that part of the comment actually complimenting one of the things you said.
After I get a comment reply from you, I will delete this thread and have a new thread with this, but with the title changed, some of the wording changed, and not having anything bold/underlined

I'm sorry if you feel that I insulted you. That was not my intent at all. I truly was trying to be helpful, and do intend on responding to those other posts of yours. But...How did I attack you? I was merely offering suggestions based on the few years I've been posting and reading here. People tend to not like lots of bold and underlined things in a post, it's kind of like capital letters, sort of like screaming. If I came off as defensive and angry, I'm sorry. But I'd really like to know what in my post was defensive or angry. What was I defending? Where did I show anger? It's easy to read the wrong things into things online, I do it at times. I certainly didn't feel angry or defensive when I wrote it.

To Fiveten: Wow, that is interesting. Why do you think that is? I am going to delete the thread i created but put it up with a different title and nothing in bold/underlined. I hope you see this comment before I delete this thread

To Ira500:Oh, sorry I misinterpreted. I actually did find your post helpful and realized I should change the title of the thread as well as some of the wording and taking away the bold and underlined. So no worries, I dont feel insulted anymore or anything like that. Im excited to see the response to that post in the "How Would you rate Seattles urbanness" thread. Oops, I just realized that I misread the post before your post on that thread and thought you also wrote the comment that came before the one you wrote on that thread but someone else wrote it.
However, the parts I found defensive and angry was the two sections below that I put next to "1." and "2." and I guess the timing of the comment as well. I messaged you before I created this thread telling you I responded to the "How would you rate Seattles urbanness" and you commented on this thread before that one.
1. "Bold and underlined? Calm down. We're talking about the weather. "
2. "If the entire post is bold and underlined, people are going to think that you're a nutjob, and will be disinclined to respond because they'll feel that you're not interested in a discussion because you know it all already."
well to be fair, this winter has been abnormally mild. but in general, i agree.
