Does anyone know how I can rent a house boat? Any good websites?

As I understand it, renting a houseboat is similar to renting an apartment, with one specification; the Shoreline Management Act prevents short-term houseboat rentals.

Here is one Web site that specializes in just houseboats for Seattle:

Seattle Houseboat Rentals - For that Unique Seattle Experience!

They ask that prospective renters do not contact them if they are looking for terms shorter than 3 months. Because houseboats are popular compared with the supply, there is a waiting list or you can only rent during times a houseboat isn't booked already.

I was passing through, curious, and checked that site. Hmm, that wasn't my idea of a houseboat. Those were, like, just boats with plants on them.

When I think of Seattle houseboat, I naturally think of the permanent dock-based structure as seen in Sleepless in Seattle.

I have seen some ads on Craigslist - however, I was shocked at the expense.

So what you are looking for is a "Floating Home". It's going to be expensive, and you'll have to wait to find one because they go fast.

Your best bet is to go to the Float Home docks, and check out the bulletin boards they have.

It is very expensive. I looked fall of 2007 and the prices were crazy and of course the spaces very small. I just checked Craigslist.

I remember on some HGTV show I think it was, don't know if it was house hunters or what, but some dude was looking at house boats in seattle, and ya, they're crazy, but so is regular housing too. But seattle is an amazing place
