I will be moving to Seattle in about 3 weeks. What should I do on my first full day in the city? Where should I eat my first Seattle dinner?

Joe

Go for a ferry ride. Have lunch on Bainbridge or Vashon Island. I think it depends on your frame of mind when you're here, but you could do the downtown thing and go to the Pike Place Market, or go hike around one of Seattle's larger parks like Seward or Lincoln or Discovery or Greenlake.
If you're in the Seward Park neighborhood, go eat at Flying Squirrel Pizza. I'm an east coast exile and can verify that it's da bomb.. Or go have sushi in the international District at Maneki, which has been there something like 90 years.
If you have money to squander, dine at Palisade at the Elliott Bay Marina, if you have a little less money to blow but want good seafood, Chinooks at Fisherman's terminal or Ivar's Salmon House on Lake Union are good choices.

Thanks, Ira! I'll be living downtown, so I'm sure the market will be one of the first places I visit. As far as Bainbridge Island goes, what would be the best place for lunch?

When I move to a new city, the first thing I do is simply walk around the neighborhoods, both where I will be working and living. It is extremely therapeutic and immediately grounds you into your new surroundings. Seattle is a great walking city. Just be aware that jaywalking is still enforced in Seattle, although you can probably get away with it in most situations.

I vote for Steelhead Diner for your first meal. Just off of Pike Place Market and 1st. Yum. And I agree with Ira. A ferry ride is a super way to ease into Seattle. The view of the city from the water is love at first sight.

Cafe Nola on Bainbridge is great, a bit pricey. San Carlos is better than average Mexican food with a northwest touch ( Dungeness crab chimichangas!)..

A few years ago I ate at an acclaimed Bainbridge place called "The Four Swallows". Not my kind of place. Expensive, hoity toity, and I think the name of the place refers to the portion sizes.

Well Joe, I'd recommend starting with putting your pants on.

I can't stop laughing. Patron of Wrath is always in the right place at the right time. You can always count on him. Great advice, indeed.
