So we are definitely moving to Seattle in the next week or so, so until I get up there to drive around, I still have some questions!

What is the deal with the area around SPU? I see some affordable (for us) places up and around W Nickerson Drive. I've been up Aurora (to visit Wallingford), so I know I was close to that area, but I didn't see west of Aurora. What is that area like? Is it rather isolated from things? Is it quiet? Is it mostly students? We are a family of 3 looking to rent, with a young tot who isn't going to be in school for years. Hubby will be commuting to Bellevue, and I'm a SAHM.

The area around SPU is mostly quiet. Bertona St. right by the campus is busy, and so is Nickerson right by the campus, but a block or two away it's just regular folks living their lives, not an overwhelming preponderance of students. One kind of cool thing about the area is that it's walking distance to Fremont, which has the PCC supermarket and a bunch of good restaurants.
And there's crawfish ( yes, in Seattle) in the canal that separates Fremont from the SPU area.

The commute to Bellevue will be tough. Figure at least 30 minutes each way in light traffic, but it easily could be 45 minutes or worse when traffic is bad.

Even though the neighborhood around SPU has lots of students and college-related activity, SPU is not a party school at all and it is pretty quiet at night. The closest shopping is either across the bridge in Fremont or Ballard or on the top of Queen Anne Hill. Each is about 5 minutes by car.
