At the end of the day will it matter how much, or how well, you prepared your homestead for a disaster of any type?

I say no.

Because at the end of the day society will have collapsed so completely nothing will be safe except what you can carry with you. Not your home, not your property, nothing will be safe from those that don't have, or the event that is the disaster in the first place.

Think about it a bit and look past the normal chest pounding bravado to see that all will be so overwhelmed that self will be all that can matter.

If ya can't carry it don't own it...............

Mini- home safe zones are a cruel dream to keep the public calm.

It seems to be a given for you that society will collapse more or less completely. What rational line of thinking leads you to this conclusion?

I completely disagree. Not everyone is preparing for the end of the world as we know it situations. If that is ALL you're talking about, then i suppose i agree.

The things that I prepare for .... earthquakes, major utilities disasters, etc ..... I don't think that my home will be over run before things are back to normal.

Easy. Society today is a loose group of people that require central Gov't to stay cohesive as a group. Remove, or change, that central gov't and society will collapse until such time that a central gov't can reform. It's just the nature of the human condition.

People are used to ,and therefore demand, boundaries for their daily lives.

Eh .... I don't hope, I prepare. If its really that bad, i'm bailing out ... just as you say. Temporary issues, where rule of law is still around? I'm better prepared than the people attempting to come in my place.

Then , in a round 'bout way, you do agree that a "Bug Out Bag" is the most important item each member of your family must own ?

Very important? Yes.

Well, having just finished "One Second After" (and fallen into such a deep depression that I had to have an extra piece of chocolate to recover), I have to agree with the Rawlesian consensus pounded into his readers on nearly a daily basis that BUGGING OUT is just another word for REFUGEE -- and we all know how refugees fare (Katrina, Pakistan, Haiti, etc.)

I keep a fully equipped emergency kit in each car for hubby and me and those backpacks we haven't used since we last hiked into an alpine lake to go skinny-dipping centuries ago serve us well now as "Git Kits" to get out of Dodge if the worst happens. In our area of the Northwest, that'll probably be from an earthquake, volcanic eruption, or our entire two acres sliding into the sea from a tsunami when the Cascadian Subduction Zone goes.

We're staying unless we have no choice. Let us keep our illusions of safety -- we're old now and deserve a break.

Not me. Society threw me out in 1987, and I am not a predator, untill another predator makes the error that I am prey.

I don't care about Govt not a bit. I don't need society either, but i decided to play the game a little but on my own terms since there is no terms society allows me to enter.

Of that mostly I help other people. But with that said I have a total distain for un-Cons laws, so I carry 24/7 and don't bother with state borders.

Cops and crooks are all the same to me. I ask for no quarter and will not give any. It is either a good idea to be my friend, or plain leave me alone.

I get 0 assistance and want none. I can count my real friends on one hand and have fingers left over.

But this isn't that i don't agree with you, since not many live or can live the way I live. Most wouldn't want to either.

On the last day I am not sure where i will stand, but it is likely I will stand for the little guys, and help them.

I already know what I will do with the predators amougnst us.
