Default I believe it's possible.

Sure, there are some people who never go to doctors, but I think they are damn rare, and also damn lucky. While there are some people who just seem to love going, and they go for every little thing, others have multiple and serious health issues and cannot be blamed for going to doctors often. I do not like going to doctors, but neither do I have a phobia about them, and I go when it's really necessary.

You can argue that if you eat right, exercise right, don't smoke, get enough sleep, and have the right attitudes, you would never have to see doctors. But this argument would be overly simplistic and therefore invalid, because the roll of the dice (our genes) sometimes trumps all the good practices I listed, as important as they are. Besides, what do you do if you break your arm?

Some very good points.

But if one has to go into a mode of definate self suffciency this would be a rather good question.

Almost. My father was born at home in the 20's. i assume he had to see doctors for WW-2 and him being a submainer, but he wasn't sick. The only time i am aware that he ever saw a doctor for being sick was 9 months before he died of double lung cancer, at 72 years.

He was a non- smoker for all his life too. But was a electrical engineer since his college, which may be related to his cancer. So almost.

I don't add up to that unfortunately, as I was born with phnumonia, and get it each couple of years, but getting me to do to the doctors isn't easy. My wife waits till I don't know my first name and then sneaks me to one.

So what are the chances if you had to break it down where one could go his whole life without seeing the doc...? of course living a longer healthy life?

If that is aimed at me I don't understand the question.

From time to time i must see a doc to get anti biotics. If you can get me anti biotics with no docs, I would be much obliged, and won't see any doctors ever again.

I go in tell em whats up and they still check, and I get a script, ususally what ever that ends up as won't work, and i call on a phone and get another kind of med that does work.

The last thing i want to do is let some stranger handle me in a doctors office where every disease known to man IS.

If you stay healthy and fit maybe you won't ever need to see doctors.

No, I don't, and I think men are notorious in this aspect, although I will tell you I attended a grief group and this guy's wife who never went to a Dr her whole life, and at age 58 finally did due to a stomach ache.

She was dead three weeks later. I do believe regular physicals are very important, although I HAVE really slacked off lately.

I try to avoid going to the doctor as much as possible but still seem to have to go often. There are times you need to and times you don't. Going for every minor symptom is overkill, but at the same time, if you have severe symptoms or an emergency, then going to a doctor or the E.R. is the logical thing to do.

Why don't you just get a pneumonia shot? They last for five or ten years. They don't hurt. I get a flu shot every single year. In fact, I quit volunteering last year due to H1N1 and did not go back until the shot was available.

Of course, I am asthmatic and high risk. But still, just sayin'...

There are simple things people can do to ward off sickness, yet they don't, and I don't get it. The last time I didn't get a flu shot was 26 years ago. Let me tell you, I was so sick for six months with bronchitis that I NEVER fail to get a shot each year. Who needs it? That stuff CAN kill you. Thank God for modern medical science, all this self sufficiency stuff aside.
