I'm thinking about an inexpensive trunk gun. I don't have much money for this, so I'm looking at .a 22 or a 12 gauge pump or a surplus military bolt action (probably a Russian MN because they are dirt cheap). I carry a Glock on me, so I'm not looking for another pistol or handgun advice. Thanks.

What do you intend for its primary use to be? This matters greatly...

Not really sure. More of a generic shoulder weapon should the need arise to have access to one while away from the house.

I never have, unless you count a hunting long gun in a rack of a pick up during hunting season. In my state it must not be loaded either way.. rack/trunk

I hit a jeep in 09 at night on a motorcycle, because the jeep hit a moose. I was armed with 2 handguns, but waited for the cops to come put the moose down. The moose went into a swamp as I followed wondering if I should finish the moose. The moose could not use either hind leg.

It would have been kinder to the moose to put it down more quickly, but I didn't want to go to prison for shooting with in 350 feet of the state road.
20 years ago I would not have worried a bit, and did put a horse down that got loose and was hit by someone elses car. That time i was just there and was on my way hunting. I didn't carry a SD weapon back then at all, didn't even own one.

I tend to agree, but that's more than I'm looking to spend.

I agree, my local fleet farm has some sks's on sale for 90 frn's and can be had for cheap.

I personally use an AR-15 with 10 30 rounds magazines, and a Glock 21 with 3 13 round magazines.

Yeah, leaving an assault rifle in your truck. Great way to arm a car thief. Same with gun racks, good way to get your window broken out and gun stolen. I really don't think too many of us can justify the need to carry a shotgun or rifle in their car for self-defense. (Los Angeles residents aside... LOL)

Seriously, I think the negatives and liabilities outweight the benefits. If you can't hit the bad guys with a Glock and a couple of magazines they are either too far away for a legit self defense claim or you need to hire a bodyguard who can.

if you can enter the property where I work without getting caught and break into my vehicle and open up the case where I have my firearms, you are welcome to them. 24 hour security is not only good for the public, but also good for the employees.
