Very interesting and useful site I saw on the Frugality subforum up yonder, linked by ... um, forgot it now ...... LifelongMOgal? - Sharing Knowlege... Feeding Nations

She showed this video introducing "aquaponics", where you have fish crapping on your salad greens to fertilize them:

Check out the Urbanfarmguys youtube channel. Lots of good info. I'd like to tour their little urban homestead one of these weekends before winter hits.

If you able provide a report. It is far from North Texas. Or I would go for certain. It could still be worth the drive.

I wonder about the size of the community? There are alot of desolate areas in the city and country with good housing stock just going to waste. I am mildly suprised that code enforcement does not go after them. Thay would be the case in some areas.

The pioneers of America went to areas with good resources and carved out nice lives. Is this happening elsewhere?

It is in a highly "undesireable" part of the metro area In Kansas City, Missouri known for high crime, prostitution and drugs. I suspect some of what they are farming are areas where delapidated homes/buildings have been torn down. I suspect they are working with some grant money available because of the area they are in and similarly a variance with the codes/zoning dept. .
