Now they ask me for suggestions on how to deal with it.

This morning, about 7 hours ago, the NYC Special-Interest Armed Force Brigade (formerly known as NYPD) used clubs and spray on the OWS group in Wall Street's Zuccotti Park. Not only are they ignoring the Constitutional right to free speech and assembly; they also forbade press helicopters and videographers from the area, and told local residential doormen to lock the doors and not to let any residents out.

Even back in the 70's I saw people routinely walk past a person that was lying, sometimes bleeding, on the sidewalk. Dozens watched as Kitty Genovese was murdered and did nothing to help.

This so-called society is going BEYOND Lord Humungous - at least HE would have some consideration and mercy. I never thought I'd be one of those sandwich-board-wearing wackadoos carrying their message of "THE END IS NEAR", but it looks like I have little choice, given the overwhelming evidence.

1984 and A Clockwork Orange were child's play compared to this.
Gee whiz, I'm glad to note there is part of your post I can agree with.

Default Getting back to the OP

Like all threads, this one has wandered quite a bit. Getting back to those 22 signs listed in the blog linked to by the OP, they are pretty lame and weak if they are intended to prove that things are going to hell in a handbasket recently (emphasis on "recently").

Don't get me wrong; the examples cited are deplorable, disgusting, inhuman, gratuitously violent, and frightening. My point is that there have always been things like that. Young thugs beating people up? Not a new invention. Thieves stealing things? Happened in the Bible, and even in the idyllic 1950's. Nut cases displaying crazy behavior, like attacking a cashier? There have always been nut cases - how long ago was that shooter up in some tower at a university in Texas? The Watts riots (Los Angeles) occurred in 1965.

Twenty-two items are designed to seem like a long list, but you can summarize and boil them down, as they are very repetitive: Beatings and senseless violence, thefts, nut cases - that sums up the 22 signs. And it's all old stuff. There were parts of some big cities where decent people didn't go decades ago.

I am not sanguine about the state of our nation. There is much today which is profoundly troubling. My point is that the veneer of civilization has always been thin, and always will be.

And on that note, I'm locking this thread since it seems we can't have a respectful conversation about the topic judging by the inordinately large amount of reported posts it's generated. Once a thread devolves into personal attacks, tangential rants and ad hominem arguments it's time to put it to rest.
