Personally, I am not doing a thing. If the world ends, so be it. I am a retired female, unable to dig an underground shelter, wear a gas mask, or buy excess cans of food and water. Some people are getting wealthy selling "stuff" you can buy to protect yourself from the coming end. I have had a great life and if its going to end next year, I will say " Farewell to Earth" and just accept it.
It's one thing to expect the collapse of our society as we know it. I do not expect such a collapse, but I recognize the legitimate difference of opinion involved and I recognize that I cannot prove it will not happen any more than the majority here can prove it will happen.
However, it is another thing entirely to believe in the Mayan hocus-pocus and attach a date to a supposed collapse. First, how would the Mayans know the future? Second, the Mayan calendar is cyclical, like years are cyclical; one cycle (or period of time) ends, and another begins. 2012 is simply as far as they carried their calendar.
This Mayan business is not a legitimate difference of opinion. It is totally absurd to believe in fairly tales. End of story.

Well it will be over for approx. 250,000 to 300,000. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_people_die_a_day
Same thing I've done to prepare for Dec. 21, 2011 or any other specific day... not a whole lot. Maybe buy a new calendar for 2013?
