It was a science fiction book about a science experiment gone bad, where it had an effect on conductive metal to make it non conductive. Nothing electrical would work anymore. The effect reached almost all the way around the world, making it impossible to get anything close enough to it to stop the effect. Basically the story was about the way people had to revert to a way of doing things like they were done before the discovery of electricity.
It was a very interesting read. I would like to read it again, but I cannot remember what the name of the book was or who the author was. I am not even sure when it was written. Could have been anytime from the late 50s to the early 70s. Does anybody recall a book like that?
The effect of the experiment was found(toward the end of the book) to be minimal or non existant at the opposite side of the world. Most of the book was centered on the survival of the characters, due to the lack of any technology, due to no electricity. Something actually changed all the metal's characteristics, such that electricity would not flow. I seem to remember the main character(s) were relocating, trying to get to another area. That is about all I remember.
