Just in case you have a couple of million laying around, and really, really like Kansas...

Can't open the link here at work, but is that the one built inside the empty nuclear missile silo?

You don't have to like Kansas...can't see any of it from that thing!

Hmmm. I think we all have different motivations, goals, and perspectives when it comes to preparedness, and I'm sure this would appeal to many. But, honestly, for me personally, I'm not even sure if I would want to live through some sort of apocalyptic hell only to find that I'm confined to another hell such as this sort of shelter. It's just that my goals are about 180 degrees out of phase with this style of preparedness--I look back, while most look ahead. I guess if it were possible to bury some sort of small log cabin in some kind of giant "inner world" cavern that mimicked and fooled you into thinking you were in a wide-open rural setting, I'd be willing to at least give it a try. But not this. It is interesting in an academic sort of way, though.

ROFLMAO - yes, Nor'Eastah, that's true... but can you imagine crawling out of that thing after The Apocalypse - and being surrounded by nothing but the acres and acres of abandoned cropland that used to be Kansas?

Oh, crap, I feel an inspired Sci-Fi futuristic novel coming on...

The first twister that rips across the state is going to drill up that thing and sent it to Mars.
Looks like it could be a rocket for takeoff any time on its own, too. Maybe a movie set for the next apocalypse movie.

Wink Apparently, we're prepping all wrong...

Depends on how you want to ride out the apocalypse. That old Atlas silo looks like it'll be pretty cushy for the millionaires who buy space there.

Me?

I'll take my little cabin way out in the boondocks, a mile from pavement and 50+ miles from an Interstate.

All laughter aside, consider what this means.
(Some) Rich Folks with spare cash are not investing in stocks, bonds, and industry - but in SURVIVAL.
The more people who decide that the future looks bleak than better, the greater the tendency to shift priorities.

My first thought was "Cool, it's just like the Umbrella Pharmaceutical Hive under Raccoon City"
