When even the people who frequent the Self-Sufficiency and Preparedness Forum don't believe in this absurd Mayan crap, that's when we know it's really REALLY crap.
The superstitious stuff is used to discredit preppers and survivalists, we are all accustom to being accused of fleeing Chupacabra's and UFO's.
My concerns about the 21st revolved around the potential of people using the significance of the date for a rampage or attacks.
I don't go out on Friday the 13th, not because I think there is anything mystically unlucky about the date but because it raises tension amongst the superstitious or someone may pick it as a Symbolic date for pre-mediated acts of violence. Such as whack job who seen to many Jason movies.
I was at work on the 21st(yesterday), I'm not going to lie I looked outside at the sky a few times lol. I was 99% sure nothing was going to happen but at the same time no one knows for sure.

It is no doubt that regardless of one's belief in this passing prophecy that due to so much buzz about we at least say to ourselves, if just for a moment over an evening beer, "What if."
The theories aside from the end of the Mayan calender ranged from a realistic possibility (Asteroid strike) to the far out (Mass extermination by Extraterrestrial's, Black hole, Nibiru etc) And were an interesting read and subject. Only one was postive-The elevation of consciousness. No dice their either though.
The wife and I slept for 12 hours last night ... we ran a ton of errands and actually was in a little bit of a bad mood because I was doing great making fire to cook some fish I caught but the weather turned suddenly and then came a rain squall and gusts (later found out online it was like 40 mph) and it put out my fire. Boo! If I had gotten there 15 min earlier, no problem, so we went home...
Then the wife made s'mores using the gas fireplace and suddenly, it seemed the world was good again, and I apologized for getting angry by giving her a foot massage. After that we ate dinner and we had done chores for like 15 hours in addition to trying to cook by a fire so we were BEAT.
Woke up today feeling like a million bucks. And the sun (was) out briefly, which is always pleasant up here in the Pacific NW, where it can go a week without seeing the sun in winter.
So I gave thanks for the world still being here, things passing pretty quietly, for a wonderful wife who puts up with me, asked to give me the strength to continue supporting her and her dreams, to stay sane and to have all my friends to have a good Christmas season.
I was at the sprint store this afternoon and they said that on 12/21, they were just about shut down from a solar flare that wasn't even a very big one. All of us said, "Wait, that was 12/21?" LOL.
There is a new focus on rouge comets and asteroids now. ISON, A comet heading this way might put on an incredible show as it passes by Earth, And the Russian Space agency reported a large asteroid heading this way from afar. None are expected to hit us. This destructive hypothetical planet Nibiru was thankfully laid to rest as it was ridiculous. People do not realize a large object by Earth would reflect the sun and be visible to the naked eye.
The Mayan calendar ended and the world survived - it was a Festivus miracle!
