Being prepared is always a smart move.

Maybe you should go argue to hospitals that they shouldn't have backup generators. Sure, they could probably save lives in a ton of situations, but since there is the possibility that a catastrophe may be so large that those generators are useless, well, hospitals should just forgo them.

I've read a ton of stories about entire families being killed in one accident (father, mother and all children). I guess since this could happen, buying life insurance is a waste of money as well.

Given that your second question has been answered multiple times may I respectfully suggest you read the thread prior to posting? We're looking at how the disaster would have effected people's prepping strategies and how they might consider changing their strategies in light of how this disaster unfolded.
