You said you have an aunt in Orange County. You may want to ask her if you can stay there for two weeks or a month just until you get a pay check or two because you really don't want to be homeless in L.A.. The commute will be hellish (1-2 hours each way) but it will only last a few weeks. Once you have ~$500-$1000 saved up start out renting a room month to month off of craigslist some where near your work; lots of them will cost ~$500 a month and they'll give you a month or so to come up with the deposit. From there try to save up as much money as you can as an emergency fund (in case your car breaks or something) and use the time to get to know the area better so when you do have the money saved up to get your own place you have a good idea which neighborhoods you like.

I'm seeing some (no doubt not great places) renting for $375 per month on a month to month basis in Ontario. You said your new job won't start until May which gives you almost four months to come up with as much money as you can. Get any old job, even a minimum wage job, and you'll easily be able to save $500-$1000 in four months. I know there isn't much in Pismo Beach but surely you could get a job at a gas station or washing dishes at a restaurant or something. Anything to build up a nest egg so you don't have to live on the streets. You have to try a little here, man.
