I give credit for any country that, at least, experiments with a different political system. Socialism/Communism presents itself as an attractive alternative where there doesn't seem to be any other, at the time. Can you blame them for their desperation/experimenting?

Currently, the socialistic presidents of Bolivia, especially, and Ecuador have done something right!

The clock is ticking, for the rich Venezuelans from Miami to return to Venezuela and end this experiment, and back to normal they go, just like Nicaragua after the Sandinistas, and Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh!

to those that have stockpiled in the past, better put some more back high and deep.

I don't give credit where the problems are well known and greed takes over in decision making. Many emerging market countries are in problems but socialism is a single power structure and leads to corruption with no real enforcement on the corrupt who controls enforcement. most get free stuff as its called ignore the corruption until the problems hit. Then they likely suffer while the corrupt do not.Nothing is free as there s always a price to pay.

Paranoia will destroy us. Socialist, leftist, liberalism??

How about just some good old fashion capitalist GREED. This typically tends to be the real problem when society goes into a tail spin.

Want to see socialism? Look at the TAX free corporation that run Amerikkka and create scenarios like the one in Venezuela.
