Hey; I FLEW black helicopters.

Glad to see the reference to the Carter years. When "Jimmuh" was president the Dow Jones Industrial average and the price of gold were equal at around $820. They can fool with interest rates, but thy cannot change the principles of economics. In 1915 you could buy a cow with a $20 gold piece. Today you can buy a cow with that same $20 gold piece, but a $20 boill won't get you very far down the meat counter.

So, what has changed? The value of the real items have not changed. Many people understand our economy. As more people experience that "Aw crap" moment they begin to consider their options. They consider where they would rather be during the adjustment. They come to places like Maine.
They come to Montana too, and other rural states. Sometimes they can't make the adjustment.
[UPDATED] Family in murder-suicide identified; shooter blames wife

This happened earlier this week not too far from where I live during the week. It has shocked everybody in the area as crimes like this are pretty rare here.

Some folks are just nuts, no matter what catagory they're pigonholed into, doomer, eco-freak whatever, there are still people that are mentally imbalanced, and there's a lot of them out there which is one of the reason sane folks are worried and want to find a better, safer place and way to live.

Some just blog their fantasies on websites, some do actual damage.

Others are well adjusted folks that know what they're doing, know what the issues are, and can make a good life for themselves and their families far from the population centers in remote areas where they have at least a modicum of protection from outside forces that wish to control them.

Either way, your first duty is to you family, so you do what you can to protect them in any circumstance or situation.

We're headed to Montana. Not sure if I am well adjusted or a nut job, but we are really looking forward to the move!

I don't have a blog, if that helps...

I don't think you'll have any problems from looking at your posts. There are a lot of really great folks in the area you're heading to.
Thought about moving over there myself several times.
Great Northern Pike fishing!!

Isolated areas though do tend to attract some of the social misfits like the unibomber Ted Kazinski. They don't do well anywhere, and when they're isolated, and the only voices they hear are the ones in their head, reality becomes skewed.
When there isn't anybody around for them to interact with, some folks just can't take it and do wierd stuff.

The guy in the article I linked has a grown daughter still in New Mexico, and she said he had some mental issues he refused to acknowledge or seek treatment for.

It's just a sad set of circumstances that his kids paid for with their lives.

Kooks will be kooks, and they can be a danger to themselves and others. Sad for the family.

I actually thought the Noxon area was far more remote than it actually is. Not crowded by any stretch of the imagination, but there seems to be a house hidden every 5-10 acres if it's private land.

It's gorgeous though. The house should be complete late fall, so we'll move just in time for winter!
