3 battalions of 850 people each, plus a command group of about 16.

That's the limit of what we can feed on the acreage we have.

We figure after the 2nd year, it will be safe enough to start reclaiming the surrounding neighborhoods.

Thank you.
I dont have any ready references so I guess you will have to take or leave my post on its own merit.

I have read extensively for many years about prehistoric and recent hunter gatherer groups in the high Arctic (essentially a desert), Australia, Africa, north America etc. Therefore, I hope you find my post credible. Please note that I am talking about hunter / gatherer groups. These groups would have no agriculture and no (or very token, as some aboriginal groups had semi domesticated dogs) domesticated herd animals. This is a fundamental difference between them and other peoples.

In the meantime, I will try to find some ready references.

As side note, there are two schools of thought regarding the efficiency of hunter gatherers. Some studies show that hunter gatherers are noticably more efficient than people with rudimentary agriculture on a day to day basis. Other studies emphasize that hunter gatherers have very little margin for error and that even rudimentary agriculture gives a significant long term advantage.

trust anyone outside of your family(and maybe some inside it) post SHTF and your in for a world of hurt.
I have seen what the human animal is capable of inflicting on its own kind and its not a pretty picture. trust no one and you wont be taken by surprise, trust them and you may not live to regret it.
