well, thanks. Another great spot for a few coins, at least, is a foot in front of a grave headstone. You can be "tending to" the grave, slit the sod with your knife and slide a flat, sealed plastic container under that sod in less than one minute, while crouched over it, letting nobody see it. Be sure to pack them so that there's no "give" in the feel and no rattling and press the sod flat with a casual seeming step. Some cemeteries are open after dark, too. Then you can tell some trusted individual that you hid something in such and such cemetery, but dont tell them what, or what name was on the stone. Then, later, you can mention the name, after some agreed upon code phrase is mentioned, say, on the phone) and that person knows to go there, retrieve the goodies and do whatever you asked. 6 1 oz gold coins can be sold for $6000, no problem. He gets to keep 1k for his trouble, you get the 5k that you need, etc. They can be 1/10th oz coins, 3 cemeteries, 3 different people. Surely not all of them will steal from you.

Those are all very good ideas.

I'm one of the lucky ones.Don't need to bug out because I already am.
Live in the country on a small lake with lots of fish and wildlife close by.
Propane generator w 1,000 gal tank plus wood heat.
Guns, freeze dried food for 1 year, berkel water filter and all the tools anyone would need.
Several like minded neighbors

best still get to an underground shelter if shtf.. Dozens of people know about your spot and they'll tell dozens of others. Many will come looking for that spot. Being out and about during daylight hours will mean that you're just asking to get shot, if shtf. It only takes one to kill you, and there's no reason to risk such shenanigans. Have NVD goggles.

Let us not quibble. Samiamnh says he is in a remote spot with several like minded neighbors.
That means more that a few of them have sufficient provisions.
All he needs to do is insure they are all on the same page for a general area defense.

Good point though.....people on the run will be invading rural areas, many of them desperate
If things got crazy you'd need a lookout at all times.

It is always good if your neighbors' guns are pointed
the same direction as yours, instead of towards
you and yours.

Hmmmm, Bug out in twenty minutes. In the unlikely event that It becomes prudent that I leave my home, which would be a very bad day indeed, it may well be too late for a car ride. If not, twenty minutes is enough to hitch up the travel trailer full of tools and provisions, load he truck with pre-labeled totes of more tools and provisions, and be on the road to a more defensible or really remote location until the storm blows over. In truth, though, leaving home is usually the very worst option a person can implement. This excludes such extenuating circumstances as family or friends living in unaffected areas, vast stretches of wild country when a person has the kit and skills to disappear into them, and having to leave due to poisoning of the local area or similar disasters. Of course anywhere in wildfire country or near a railroad or truck route, hasty evacuation may be necessary in normal times. For such things, a truck and travel trsiler pre- fitted for the event will go a long way toward keeping some semblanc of self sufficiency during the crisis.
