For posterity (from first link):

Solar Radiation Storm In Progress

A solar flare erupted from the Sun last night at 7:04pm EST, creating an R3 (Strong) Radio Blackout.

Moderator cut: Large quote, possible copyright issues. Remember that forums are for discussion and debate, not as an archive of off-site info. Thread being kept open for discussion of this and other solar storms.

I am not seeing any affect on Aurora in any reports on "Spaceweather"

Says main impact will be on Aircraft using HF comms over Pacific.
Do any commercial aircraft use HF any more?

Disregard the first link. The data on there doesn't change. I don't know how old it is.

No, they're not.

The only solar flares that relevant are X-Class flares, and even then only X-Class flares greater than X15.

This....

CONTINUED ALERT: Electron 2MeV Integral Flux exceeded 1000pfu

...is nothing.

When it says this...

CONTINUED ALERT: Proton 30MeV Integral Flux

...you can start panicking and grab your go-bag.

By "time relevant", I only meant that it was the information available when I made the post.

I'll try to use less-triggering words next time.

Ehhh, live and learn

I write a weekly column on another (public) forum, where I write about emerging pandemics. I have learned to write a two line anti-warning at the head of each of my posts that there is no emergency

I didn't see anything on my warning system about the flare, so it was either class C (minor flare) or missed us by a wide margin. I have seen a few discussions about class C flares recently, but no class M or X.

We are currently at solar minimum,
so I am not watching too closely.
Someone should, though,
and if that is you: cool
