I've never heard that monsanto is producing sterile seeds. Their business model has been to sell seeds such that their offspring purposely creep onto neighboring farms so they can sue the farmers for growing their patented seeds "illegally".

Actually, most of not all the GMO seeds are sterile. The farmers who plant them are just renting the variety for the season. It's not the offspring of those seeds that blow onto someone else's fields, it's the seed itself that gets tossed by the machinery. Supposedly those instances are greatly exaggerated, but who knows??
"Genetic use restriction technology (GURT), also known as terminator technology or suicide seeds, is the name given to proposed methods for restricting the use of genetically modified plants by activating some genes only in response to certain stimuli, especially to cause second generation seeds to be infertile."
"GURT seeds have not been commercialized anywhere in the world due to opposition from farmers, consumers, indigenous peoples, NGOs, and some governments."
Spend 10 seconds on any search engine and you will get the same data from millions of web sites: The technology exists, however it has NEVER been used. Spend an additional 10 seconds and you will discover that the GMO seed companies make far more money through litigation than "suicide seeds" could ever produce.
MOD NOTE: This is a thread about where to get seeds, not another tedious Monsanto (which is now Bayer, BTW) bashing. I'll leave the existing posts as information, but any further off-topic ones or posts about GM seeds will be deleted.
I bought some diakon radish seeds from the local Asian market, and instead of the nice giant white radish shown on the package, the plants produce a few two pea pods. Incorrect packaging, I imagine. Too bad, as the poor Japanese used daikon much as the Irish used potatoes as a basic survival foodstuff.
