They were common in the shallow end of the ponds
where I grew up, just North of the Ohio River, in IL.

I mention it only because they are very edible ..........I live on a slew with at least 5 acres of the things....

As far as I know, they grow just about
everywhere in the US that there are
natural ponds. That only rules out some
desert and some mountainous land.

I live on the side of a small mountain.
