Soylent Green is a movie worth watching. Produced 50 years ago, set, ironically, in 2022. Like 1984, the author had to choose a date, where the older char actors would remember how life used to be, and ended up choosing a date too early. (Brave New World did the opposite, choosing a date we cannot foresee.) In retrospect, they probably should have chosen a date 100 years in the future.

“Going Home”

Given that starvation and misery of every imaginable kind are a way of life in this world, the state makes it easy, and even inviting, for those who have simply had it with their grim existence, to avail themselves to the state-assisted euthanasia “going home” services – or what some might call “death centers.”

I'm old enough to remember it well!

Happy Easter to All!

Well, Socialism wins the prize for genocide -and- suicide.

FWIW - someone pointed out that Japan is suffering a labor shortage due to their birthrate drop. And there is a proliferation of robots (and remote controlled automata) substituting for human labor.

I watched a video about capsule hotels (pod hotels) and was amazed at how many businesses rely on robots. Granted, some were operated by workers from home, so it wouldn't be out of the question for one worker to operate multiple robots. One restaurant had rolling robot servers, with a human remotely speaking to the customer.

We may need to implement robot servants to deal with the demographic crisis.

It's amazing how turning off the angst and frenzy media (radio, Internet, phone) improves one's outlook. In fact, the apocalypse they create and promote daily fades away fast, as you replace your outlook with something healthy and beneficial. Rejecting the hate, stress, and worry will also add years and quality to your life.

The Founding Fathers wanted us to be self-sufficient and strong. Not attached to strings from above and manipulated.

I was in college during the Reagan administration, studying Manufacturing and Business. It was well accepted in business at that moment in time, that future days would see robots doing all the needful things, while people took time to improve themselves, their homes, and communities.

No, business didn't have an answer to how/where people were going to be able to afford the products and services. Manufacturing has us read "Player Piano", by Kurt Vonnegut.

Take this as a bit of humor:

Wasn't that the idea behind "I Robot" with Will Smith?

Seems like they still had some challenges, especially when that danged red light came on.

Robots are one thing, Thinking robots is what concerns me, AI could one day decide the best way to eliminate the worlds problems, is to eliminate humans altogether.

Just had a frustrating experience with Xfinity (Comcast). Their rep didn't know how to handle my request since I didn't have a smart phone or a computer. Had to get a supervisor to help me. If the 'net ever goes down, a lot of places are going to crash and burn. Including my daughter who can't imagine life without her smart phone and streaming TV.
