Interesting note, The Army is for the first time assigning a combat brigade ( 3rd. Infantry Div.) for active duty inside the U.S. with a dedicated assignment to Northern Command in domestic operations. The soldiers are being trained to help in civil unrest and crowd control by using "non-lethal weapons". The brigade has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq. Just in time for the Nov. nat'l. elections?
With less money available for credit, banks will cease issue of all sub-prime credit cards, cancel the accounts and demand immediate payment in full in accordance with the card holder agreement (better read it -- or do you people find that stuff "boring?").
Since we are discussing a hypothetical crises, here is one for you. What happens when they "demand" money from you that you don't have. For instance, let's say I am steadily paying $300 a month on an $8,000 credit card and everything is fine. Then, boom, economic collapse. So, if the credit comapny then demands $8,000 in full when I have $1,000 to my name ... what happens?

Hypothetically speaking still of course.......if the credit company is now owned by the government in the event of a massive bailout, you could be forced into indentured servitude for payment of your debt. Can you say cannon fodder in Iraq?
For most of us the economy is still OK. (Today and maybe tommorrow, but next week, who knows? Today, many of us still have money in the bank, our accounts are safe (today), and we have a job to go to. Some of us this last weekend were still buying DVD's, 46 inch Plasma TV's and going on nice vacations. But if Congress does not do something soon, our economic system will collapse and chaos will result. Maybe our credit cards will stop working, or millions of us will be thrown out of our jobs, or our bank accounts will be emptied. Or store shelves will become bare. Who knows!!
How will the social frabic of our society hold up? Will there be huge riots and general civil unrest? Will our government fail? If things get really bad how ugly will it get on the streets of American cities? Your thoughts?
By any chance did you cross into Austria back in '56 as my father did?
