Stocking up for the collapse?
BTW, where did that KKK thread go?
Just read in another forum that WV has 14 hate groups in the state - 3 here in the Kanawha Valley.
Says we also have skin-heads in Chas area (aren't skinheads neo-nazi's?).
Report is at Southern Poverty Law Center website.
They sure must be well hidden cuz I have never seen or heard of any of them.
Our numbers are pretty low compared to a lot of other states, in particular our neighbors -
Ohio 23
Pa 37
Va 26
Uber liberal Cal is by far the highest with 84

To leave the Phsyco-babble behind and get back to the topic...a best friend in NC sent this up in an email...thought it fit the thread..
Warshing clothes in 1910/2010
Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water.
Set tubs so smoke won't blow in eyes if wind is pert.
Shave one hole cake of lie soap in boilin'water.
Sort things, make three piles.
1 pile white, 1 pile colored, 1 pile of work britches and rags.
To make starch, sift flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boilin' water.
Take things, rub dirty spots on warshboard, scrub hard and boil, then rub colored, don't boil, just wrench and starch.
Take things out of boiling tub with broom stick handle, then wrench and starch.
Hang old rags on fence.
Spread tea towels on grass.
Pore wrench water on flower bed.
Scrub porch with hot soapy water.
Turn tubs up-side down.
Put on clean dress, smooth hair with haircombs.
Brew a cup of tea and sit a-spell.
Hum a hymn and count your blessings.
As a young boy, my grandmother did almost this same ritual verbatim.
Water was taken from a rain barrel because it was soft water...and that barrel had a lid on it to keep it clean.
Water was heated in the Wash-house on a two burner gas canning hotplate.
She would heat the water in a huge oblong copper boiler and bucket the water into her prize possession.
A gasoline Maytag...would always warn me of the exhaust pipe that had to be placed out the window.
Only she was allowed to start that little engine!
I was there because that was the heated place when the new kittens lived...
That washer was replaced with electric and a laundry built in the house...wonder if we will see those days again?

re : people in glass houses
If the SPLC says this type of haircut makes it so, then it must be, right? We can only hope the government won't classify people as racists, radicals, etc., just because of a haircut like the SPLC does, although I wouldn't put it past them if it serves their purpose. By the way, the occupant of the White House has the same hair cut as I do . . and based on this SPLC research, my dear Watson, we can conclude that Hussein is also a skinhead.
What is truth?

A local preacher came into the office today, said his 33 year old son was coming back to live with them...bringing the family out of middle Pa...asked my recomendations...
He shook his head when I suggested they stockpile canned food and get the son in the Handyman Business...for the instant cash flow until a regular job can be had...
He has a background in construction. Wishing them well.

Construction - as in home construction?
There's said to be a new wave of home foreclosures coming (cuz decrease in prices and increasing unemployment).
Calculated Risk: NY Times: Foreclosures: No End in Sight
Also saw a chart on TV calling for new foreclosure waves in the next couple years of people who did not take out loans they can't afford, etc. (let's hope it is wrong).
Agree he look to be a handyman - they are always in demand.
Speaking of unemployment in WV.... as the EPA, Obama, etc. keep hacking away at our miners, our unemployment is sure to go up. Tip my hat to the environmentalists who have fought for Cap & Trade, worked hard to shut down mining, etc. -- especially those who don't even live in WV and/or coal mining areas - congrats. Best wishes that what is happening to our miners also happens to you (or already has).

The country runs on the auto industry and the housing industry....auto sales and home building is flat on their backs...don't you believe in a minute that housing is up 17%...
The eco-freaks have one agenda...bankrupt the nation at any cost...where will they go? Thousands are in Hippy India now, with their disability checks...servants and the finer foods...the Nirvana they sought in the 60's...and the dope is plentiful.
Don't hear any of the Rockefeller coal barons from Wv protesting do you?...that's because his family owns the next fuel...Natural Gas...
That coal you spoke of is half of the tax revenue to this state and we don't matter AT all...I remember when Baltimore and Norfolk had shipyards...when Pittsburgh had steel mills, when Detroit, Lordstown and Windsor had auto factories....ha ha ha..
"Coal is dirty...let them eat cake"
I never thought I would say anything good about Mr. MoJo, but I'm glad for us he's a scab coal operator...

That's because Conservatives are not racist (contrary to what the liberals tell you) Its the liberals, the Left, that are all about hatred...Just try to have a debate with them on issues and you will see how quickly they revert to personal attacks and name calling.

Have liberal "spread the wealth" groups become so powerful that they have simply broken the back of America?
Are the Feds just inept?
Is it all the fault of the American citizen?

From the Communist manifesto: "In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property."
Amendment V, US Constitution 1789
... nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
COMMUNISM - the ownership of property, or means of production, distribution and supply, by the whole of a classless society, with wealth shared on the principle of 'to each according to his need', each yielding fully 'according to his ability'.
- - - Webster's Dictionary.
SOCIALISM - A political and economic theory advocating collective ownership of the means of production and control of distribution. It is based upon the belief that all, while contributing to the good of the community, are equally entitled to the care and protection which the community can provide.
--- Webster's dictionary
CAPITALISM - An economic system in which the means of production, distribution and exchange are privately owned and operated for private profit.
- - - Webster's Dictionary
A farmer who owns his farm enjoys capitalism. A farmer who doesn't is a tenant.
A laborer who owns the fruits of his labor enjoys capitalism. A laborer who doesn't is a slave. PRIVATE PROPERTY - "As protected from being taken for public uses, is such property as belongs absolutely to an individual, and of which he has the exclusive right of disposition. Property of a specific, fixed and tangible nature, capable of being in possession and transmitted to another, such as houses, lands, and chattels."
- - - Black's Law dictionary, sixth ed., p.1217
If you concatenate capitalism with private property, you can see the "inconvenient truth". Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production, distribution and exchange are absolutely owned by individuals and operated for their individual profit.
Anything else is NOT capitalism, including usury (which likes to call its nefarious scheme "capitalizing") and limited liability artificial persons (stock corporations) who engage in usury.
In summation, in 1935, the USA underwent a left wing socialist revolution. Socialism (collective ownership) has been gradually implemented, so as not to upset the sheeple. Every president, since FDR, has been a socialist, marching us down the road to complete communism.
If you fail to pay your socialist taxes, your property is taken from you.
If you do not receive just compensation, that property was NOT private property.
And since most Americans have "volunteered" by applying for an account and number in national socialism, the government can excuse itself from blame. He who consents cannot complain...

I would not be so hasty to use such a sweeping generalization.
Let us recall that in oil - poor USA of the 1880 - 1910, electric rail was a booming business. As cheap and plentiful oil became available, infernal combustion engines were more economical. Since 1970s, when the USA ceased to be a dominant oil producing nation, we might consider the wisdom of an oil-free transportation system.

Consuming fossil fuels is unwise. Waiting 65 million years for a refill is too long. And it is difficult to breathe polluted air (hack hack). Black lung is no fun, either.
Transitioning to a sustainable civilization is far better.
Soundbite suggestions:
[] Electrify all mainline railroads ( 2 - 3% increase in 'lectric load but save us billions in oil imports)
[] Build / rebuild electric urban rail mass transit (another 1% increase)
[] Conservation (if necessary, slap a 100% tax on any fossil fuel)
[] Dam every suitable river / stream for hydropower and navigation (and add locks and fish ladders, etc)
[] Use electric rail rights of way for electric utilities - help link wind turbines
[] Consolidate population into high density, mixed use development
[] Expand agriculture, recover arable land from suburban developments
[] Encourage direct solar power in all forms

In Wv, the service industries to the coal industry have come almost to a standstill.
Coal companies have great stockpiles on the ground and their layoffs are imminent...BUT....BUT they won't show in the data until next quarter, when several million people nationwide will have exhausted their un-employment benefits and no longer show on the books...
What the media will call 'having them get a job...
I don't give a Rats A$$ about the rest of the country.... they have never given us any help..
It's time for Mr. MoJo to bring those 6 Chinese Coal Gasification Projects on line and make gasoline here..tax it and sell it only in Wv...that will bring all the business in the world to our doorstep. Create a central fuel depot for 1/2 the frieght hauling in the USA.
He should tell Obama to Go to He** and keep our state afloat...
We do not have to accept this national government malarky...It's unfunded and only a media demand...
MoJo can do that too if the welfare of the citizenry is at stake...and it is.
Our people have no place to go this time around...no Atlanta, no Detroit and no Charlotte.
***and a comment to the poster from Georgia: Oil and natural gas are self generating...cooked off by the Earth's (high temperature) crust...we have an inexhaustable supply and the answer is to burn in cleanly...the other answer is nuke.
