I've heard that plated tungsten is often used for forgeries.

Where does one obtain "Ft Knox gold?"

This is a problem. Tungsten counterfeits are difficult for the layman to detect.

I didn’t read any posts but after seeing that the OP was made in 2009, I guess after 10 years, the big collapse is probably no closer than it was then, other then maybe 10 years. Nothing to see here.

The big collapse is certainly ten years closer than it was ten years ago.

Just compare the cost for autos, to see that hyperinflation is still debauching the money token system.

2019 Honda Accord LX $22k
2009 Honda Accord LX $18k
1979 Honda Accord LX $7k

The gubmint luvs inflation - the best way to increase tax revenues without the sheeple squawking.

Very good question.

Hmmm, seems to me that a pound of gold should weigh the same as a pound of lead ...

Yep. Nothing to see.
And nothing for you to comment on.
But you did, anyway.

(kinda like a cat chasing a string... )

I personally think it will be more of a slow decline than a quick collapse.

One day we will just wake up in a country we don't recognize with a powerful overreaching Federal government hell bent on perpetual war that doesn't represent us, militarized police in our neighborhoods searching and gunning us down for mundane "reasons", fellow citizens begging for even more government control and freebies, eroding rights, less purchasing power, more debt that we can never repay, increasing racial and socioeconomic tensions, complete with many millions of imported legal and illegal immigrants that don't want to assimilate. Oh wait.....

I thought he meant that a gold bar with the weight stamped on it weighed 20% less than that weight indicating that it was really lead. There is another problem. Bullion in reserves is almost always in 400 oz, bars. Those are Troy ounces, not Avoirdupois.

I drove past the gold depository in 1961. It was a sturdy-looking building with no windows. There was no outlet store. I doubt that civilians can still casually drive across military bases, but, at that time, there was an ordinary unguarded street with signs pointing to the gold.

Dirty trick attempt - I didn't use the word pound. Ft Knox gold is weighed using standard sized bars.
