facing a meager existance with a simple daily fight for survival becuase the systems that support modern life begin to fail, rapidly falling like dominos (not that I think it will happen that way, it will probably be too slow to notice)

This has to do with my worst fear.

The sun won't just fade away. It'll explode & take us with it in a black hole.

Not for quite a few eons yet, though. Our descendants will likely have figured out a way to move into a new neighborhood before then, provided something else hasn't caused our extinction yet.

IMO, best case! The sooner we put this cruel, laboratory experiment called the human race to an end, the better off this planet will be, and the better off we'll all be.
