I have a good number of gently used foreign, esoteric and non mainstream movies on VHS tape that I purchased when a couple of video stores in my area were going out of business. Most look like they were rarely rented and are in excellent shape. Would it be acceptable, despite the dated technology, to give these as gifts to people or if you think a neighbor or coworker would like a certain movie, to give a VHS movie to him/her?

What do you think about gently used CD's as gifts? If you were to go to a thrift store, garage sale, etc and see excellent to mint condition greatest hits CD's of popular artists for $3, would you buy some to give as gifts to people in the future or use as a small way of saying thank you? For example, if a friend, coworker, neighbor tells you they like a certain artist, then you can give them the greatest hits CD as a nice little surprise or a stocking stuffer. A while back, I saw an ad for 100 CD's of big name, popular and well respected classic rock artists from the 60's, 70's, and 80s that a lot of people would like. About half were their greatest hits CD's and the other half were those artist's most successful albums. I already owned all of the CDs for sale but was thinking about buying them to give as gifts to people, but I didn't. Would you have purchased these gently used CD's and them given them as gifts?

Why not? Especially since these seem to be the "I was thinking of you" kind of gift vs "Happy 50th Anniversary Babe! Here's an old VHS I had laying around the garage" LOL!

I love thrift stores and one reason aside from the bargains for self & son, and for items to resell, is that I often find things I know friends would appreciate.

Some of the more esoteric and rare stuff might be worth listing on eBay though.
