Not everyone will tell you about a rebate!

I made a large purchase at the store and wasn’t told about any rebates, however because this was a large amount for buying tires, I was interested if I could save a few bucks.

I did my homework and checked at several tire stores about the products that they were selling and after comparing prices found that I could get the best deal at Costco. However no one told me about any rebates on the Michelin tires when buying a set of four.

I checked online with Michelin and found they had a $70 rebate buying four tires at participating stores. After checking online with them I found that Costco was a participating store. Thus after a little finger work on the keyboard I was able to find a $70 rebate. Makes me wonder why no one told me about it at the store? However I suggest that if you’re spending your money, do the leg work and then do the finger tap on the keyboard to find rebates. $70 in my pocket is better then in theirs.

That's going to be a pretty rare situation. Rebates are purely a marketing tactic. When they're offered, the stores (and sometimes even the manufacturers) are typically going to use that to entice you to buy the product.

In the long run, whatever rebates you find that way probably won't be worth the time you spend looking for them.

Nice find, though.

^^ I agree in part. However when making a large purchase it’s time well spent to look for any manufacture discounts or rebates. I wouldn’t spend time on smaller priced items, it’s not worth it. Seventy dollar rebate on a $830 purchase isn’t something to pass up on.

Costco may not offer the rebate because they deduct it from the price and that should be shown on your receipt. I once bought an item at Costco, found a rebate for $75 and applied for it. But it was denied because it was already applied. The item was just about $500 in most stores and Costco was $400. The receipt showed cost as $475 with $75 rebate ending in a cost of $400. I only really saw the $400 without checking the details and it wasn't until I really looked at the receipt did I notice that. First check your receipt.

I think it is wise even before you go shopping for a higher priced item to check out the product website for possible savings. You never know for sure.....but it is fun when you find them.

Thanks AksarbeN!!
