Does anyone know if you can get a free day pass to try Costco? I used to be a member 15 years ago but haven't set foot in there since if that makes a difference.

Stop by their customer service desk and get one. Ask the "Door Greeter" where to go. We got one when we decided to switch from Sam's to Costco.

I know BJ's has monthly day-passes because I used to get them in the mail all the time.

Okay I had read somewhere that they had discontinued this practice, and I didn't want to drive all the way out to be turned away. So thanks, I'll go get my spanakopita now.

Costco gives out Day Passes as promotions. They don't give them out just for the asking. So unless you are on a list for a special promotion, the best you can get is a Look-See pass that lets you vist the store and look around but not purchase. Yopu can get a promotion Day Pass by writing to Costco's main office telling them how far away it is and you want to visit a store to see what they have. They might send you one of the Day Passes but read it carefully because if you go and look around and decide to buy something, you pay a premium. If you use the pass and decide to join at the membership desk, you don't pay a premium. Unlike Sam's Club, Costco doesn't seem to have any problem attracting and keeping members.

BJ's is offering a free 60 day pass. I got mine in the mail today. I'll look for that link....
or you can just print out this one. Make sure to activate it BEFORE 7/11.

Keep in mind their gas is usually 3-5 cents cheaper. So, if you live near a BJ's, it's a great deal.

I know I'm late to the party, but Costco offers a 100% refund of your membership fee if you are unhappy for any reason. Sure, they hold $50 hostage, but if you don't want to shop there again you can get your membership fee refunded at any time.
