Back in the 50's, Coca Cola would have someone go around to every little store, and offer them a sign, which was probably free, since nearly every store had one. Most of the sign was a red Coke ad, and a white strip had the name of the store in green letters, like this:

At one store I saw in Louisiana, apparently the Coke man had asked What's the name of the store? He was told it was James' Sto'. So that's exactly the way it was spelled: JAMES' STO'

In Newfoundland, small stores have always been classified as "Grocery and Confectionery" stores, abbreviated on the sigh as "Groc & Conf". So people would just say "I'm going down to the groc 'n' conf".
