I would expect hand baskets that are used for food placed on the floor to be in violation of any state's health laws.

It makes sense to me but I've never seen the baskets placed anywhere but the floor. I always use grocery carts so I never even bother with the baskets on the floor but maybe the stores in my area need to invest in getting the baskets off the floors for sanitary purposes.

What a shame you figure that out after giving me the "dubious" look.

I gave you the "dubious" look because I assumed that all grocery stores (including yours) place the baskets on the floor. After reading yours and Pam's responses, I realized that some stores use elevated racks to store the baskets so my assumptions were wrong.

Have you been grocery shopping any time or do you send your maids out to do it for you? Do you not observe that supermarket baskets spend most of their time on the floor? Have you not seen that most customers who use baskets put them, ya know, ON THE FLOOR as they shop? And grocery stores routinely stack baskets .... guess where?? That's right...on the FLOOR.
This is some serious case of reality disconnect here.
Wow. Okay maybe you guys are visually impaired. In which case, disregard what I said and just watch out for the baskets on the floor and don't trip on them.
|
I've seen them raised on a rack and I have seen them stacked on the floor, so I guess maybe it just depends where you live, or where you shop. One of the smaller supermarkets I go to actually has baskets that one call pull similar to luggage. They are off the floor. Have never seen them anywhere except this one location.
Seems baskets are like people . Many different kinds.

Although I totally agree there should be health codes, it sounds like we want more big government monitoring and controlling our lives? Just saying! However I am always for health codes that support our society and improvements in our lives. I think all of our stores here provide sanitary wipes for the carts and baskets. Now it’s up to you and me to clean their baskets.
have you ever smelled and seen poopy diapers on a baby sitting in the shopping cart and being pushed around the store while mom shops? Guess who cleans out that seating area of the cart?

Problem is these people ARENT professionals. They are minimum wage slow death workers. When I worked in customer service I always maintained that if you wanted me to act "professional" then you needed to pay me like one.
Another problem is what determines non-professional behaviour, as everyone has their own ideas. An awful lot of customers think it's "unprofessional" to not smile like a loon for 8 hours straight. They consider an unsmiling cashier as rude. Other customers also flat out don't like being told "no" for any reason.
Quite frankly, I've seen way more rude customers then rude employees. People are human. We can't always leave our personal stuff at home. That is such an antiquated ideal I wish we could do away with in this country.

My old boss said it best to one of my coworkers. Having a bad day does not give you license to be a b*tch. If you can't check your problems at the door, then don't enter.
And, yes, my father used to work in grocery chains and those baskets are routinely placed on the floor. And that is probably the least of your worries in a grocery store when it comes to baskets that 1000s of people handle.
