This has been a terrible year for J.C. Penney.
I think they've lost their way. I went to shop there at Christmas time, and although the store looked very nice, the boutique look ("Here are several different types of jeans!") didn't seem to be getting a lot of attention. The first rule of customer service is to know who you customers are. The second rule is to give them what they want. J.C. Penney customers are looking for bargains and they loved the coupons. What's to love about that store now? The remodeling probably scared away the older customers, who are intimidated instead of impressed by the new look, and the pricing structure is difficult to understand.
Having said that, I need new work blouses (mine are fraying badly at the collars), and guess where I'm going to start my search? Yes, J.C. Penney!
However, there is also a Macy's in that mall, so I could end up there instead.
