anyone know if these beds are comfortable, or if they keep their air. Thinking of leaving my mattress and box spring behind. They are so heavy to move. I would then purchase an aero bed or something of the sort at the new location. What is everyone's experience with these? Is it a waste of money? Do the sheets stay on?
I used to have an air mattress, about a hundred years ago. It was one that was designed for everyday use. I loved it in the summer because it was cool. It was also cool in the winter, not always a good thing. I used better quality water bed sheets and never had a problem keeping them on. It held air just fine. Much like a water bed, if there will be more than just one person sleeping on it you will notice when they move around or get up.
I have a queen-sized Aerobed, and it's pretty comfortable for an air mattress... I've never slept on it, but friends have, and all got a good night's sleep. But when my friend shared it with her daughter (1 year-old at the time), they ended up sinking into the middle - like a people taco, LOL. Turns out it had a leak, which the customer service offered to repair for free by sending a patch kit. As for the sheets, Aerobed provides a special sheet that stays on just fine! Anyway, I don't know if it could replace a real mattress, but they aren't bad... and they do inflate REALLY fast, which is cool too.
They're comfortable, but they're just not built for everyday use. We had one temporarily that we used until my furniture was moved out from Ohio; it developed bumps as the quilting "popped" out. Customer service sent us a brand new bed, and a few months later it, too, developed bumps. Still under warranty, we got a third bed, and it popped out as well.

I think aerobeds are great for short-term use and as a substitute for a cot or a spot on the floor. I've slept just fine on them when going for weekend visits. And my MIL slept on it just fine for a couple of months when she camped out in our living room for a couple of months over the hollerdays a couple of years ago. But as a substitute for a regular mattress and boxspring? Only if you're in college.
My inlaws have one for when they have a large number of guests visit or they go camping. They also use it when they come to visit us. My MIL loves it. My DH has back problems and can only sleep on it for one night or his back starts to act up. I wouldn't think it would hold up for everyday use. The sheets do stay on it.
Air mattresses are good for guests, and great for car-camping. I wouldn't want to use mine as my only bed, though, as it is no where near as comfortable as a traditional mattress.
