Lol, if waiting an extra minute for someone to write a check is that much of a problem for you, I want your life.

Your inability to manage your own time is not the problem of the person in front of you in the checkout lane.

LOL, I think you've named them all! What's left? I guess all forms of payment are slow, then.

Amen to that.

The person in front of you may have even tighter time constraints. And even if that person has all the time in the world, the fact that you are in a bigger hurry is not that person's concern, nor should it be. We can be responsible only for ourselves.

And if having to wait for someone to write out a check is the worst thing that happens in a day, it's a very charmed life you lead.

What about the effect on others of such an arrogant attitude?

It's got nothing to do with any inability to "manage" my time, very judgmental of you. The person who is trying to make the best use of every possible second is NOT the one who is the not managing their time properly. I have more to do in a day than there is time to do in a day, no matter how I manage it. Enjoy YOUR life of leisure, but that's not where I am right now. And as I and others have said, it's about inconsideration. You KNEW you were going to the store. You KNEW you were paying by check. There is NO excuse for holding everyone else up by not having that check filled out and ready by the time you have to fill in the total.

No, it's not the worst thing in the world, and no, it doesn't ruin my day. It's a minor annoyance. But it's yet another example of self-centered inconsideration in this society. Me me me, I'm the only one who exists, no one else matters.

And when people judge others for using checks at the grocery store, isn't that what they're saying about themselves. *shaking head*

People who write checks remind me of this lady in line yesterday, she took a minute to decide if she wants a roll or crackers lol.

It's not even like all old people use checks, some swipe their card and go, I don't know how these people think it takes longer to swipe a card than write a check lol.

Modern payment systems like NFC and RFID.

Yes. Shopping the day before was totally out of the question because i was burying my father that day. The day before that was his funeral. The day before that was my daughter's 8th birthday. The day before that was a day spent at his bedside waiting for my father to pass and then going to the funeral home to make the arrangements. We had no time to figure out who was bringing what to Thanksgiving much less do the shopping until the last minute. All of this was also while I was working full time because the bills don't stop coming just because my life is crazy.

My attitude is not arrogant in the least. Rather, it is a recognition that other human beings have value and deserve to be treated with courtesy and consideration insofar as that is possible under a given set of circumstances. That you would choose to argue with that belief and call it arrogant says quite a bit about you but very little about me.

The OP's question was about check writing. Not about being unprepared to pay when it's time to pay. A person digging around for their debit card or cash or having their card declined can all take longer as well. Two separate issues. Pay however you'd like but please be ready to pay when it's time.

That's it in a nutshell.
