I bought one of these yesterday. But I noticed something. They aren't made the way they used to be. (Or at least this one wasn't.)

I can tell it's a real foot. (At least that part is the same, even though fake ones have been made for decades). But the setting is what is different. I have a couple that I got as a child. One real and one fake. The setting (which holds the chain on one side and the foot on the other) on the old ones were made of some kind of base metal. But the new one is made of plastic. It is covered with a plastic chrome-like gold tone that peels off (like chrome).

Yes, it is an attempt to replicate *brass*.

It's kind of like those cheap digital watches that look like metal, but really only the band and case-back are metal. The case on those inexpensive watches are often made of chrome-plated plastic.

I would almost prefer to have a fake foot made with a metal setting if I buy a new one again.
