If you know what it is- What's it like now?
My Grandparents took me there every time when I spent the summers with them- that was the late '60's.
If your not from Texas- you have no idea.

Yes, First Monday is in Canton, Texas. You need to post this in the Texas Forum. If you have not been since the 60's - OHMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, it has changed. The whole thing has grown and it is still a HUGE deal. The First Monday in November is probably the most crowded as people go for Christmas shopping.

Yep, if no one has ever been they have no idea how HUGE this thing is. It is easily something you could in no way cover the entire thing in one whole day.

2nd Monday is in Bowie Texas and it's sort of the same thing. Huge flea market with lots of vendors selling new stuff too. Lots of fun but it's been a long time since I went. Good memories!

I wouldn't be surprised if the market in Bowie is much smaller now. Bowie is hurting in the population area, no jobs.

But it was good shopping and real local enterprise.

Actually, I posted here on purpose. I knew I'd get expat' Texans from other parts of the country. Back in the late '60/ early '70's it could be covered in a good full day. My grandparents would take me and I'd wonder around in amazement of it all. My favorite at the time was the food, and an ice cold Dr. Pepper (the staple of Texas thirst). My Grandparents actually became friends with some people that were there on a regular basis. They used to be a husband and wife nightclub act. Found religion- and became a traveling gospel group. They're stop at First Monday was to make money (they did arts&craft type stuff)-
Thanks for the update, I hope theres lots of motel rooms in canton now.
