I put one for my son in a maze.
Amazon.com: Gift Card Maze: Everything Else

He loved it. Took him about 5 minutes to get it open, but he thought it was a cool idea. Perfect for a kid or an adult kid.

I just buy the small gift card holders, at Target they are $1 in the dollar section

We like to stick gift cards in these holders onto the tree so they are like ornaments essentially

For me I like to put it in a nice card. Plain and simple. They may not be expecting much but it is a nice surprise when they open it and find a gift card inside.

Charlie.

As long as you're there to witness the opening of the gift, or if you let someone in on your idea, you can fill a gift bag full of tissue paper and tape the gift card to the inside bottom of the gift bag. I gave my teenage nephew his birthday gift wrapped this way and he chuckled...which if you knew him, was quite a reaction! I included a can of green beans (he hates them) for weight and to throw off his guessing efforts.
