Anyone ever been to a Crate and Barrel outlet? How good are the discounts? Is it just full of sale items, marked-down stuff, etc? Is most of it discontinued, or do they have some of the same lines that they do in the regular stores? I've never been but there's one in Dallas and I want to go there today.

A lot of it is just last year's stuff. Be careful with Crate and Barrel, a lot of their furniture is "you assemble it" and is very low quality. Their "collection" furniture is a lot better but is much more expensive.

I have a piece of "you assemble it" furniture from Crate and Barrel. It's not a museum-quality piece for sure, but it's nice and I have no complaints about it. I don't think anyone who buys furniture that you must build yourself expects it to be the highest quality.

I wouldn't expect that anyone who would buy furniture at a place called "Crate and Barrel" should expect any quality at all.

The name doesn't exactly conjure up images of sophisticated design and fine craftsmanship.

I would expect to find good deals there on spool tables or concrete block and particle board board bookshelves.

In the end I didn't go to the outlet; the holiday shopping traffic scared me off. I did go to Toys R Us and Target yesterday looking for a particular item for my BF, didn't find it...Toys R Us was a madhouse but Target wasn't too bad. I've found the least-busy Super Target in the DFW metro area, so I'm not telling anyone else which one it is.

The Crate & Barrel near me (also has a Container Store, Restoration Hardware, and World Market in the same strip mall) was ridiculously crowded judging from the parking lot, so I bet the outlet would have been worse. I'll hit it after Christmas.
