Why do salespeople who work on commission still exist? Car dealers, appliance sellers etc. In the age if internet research, price shopping and general consumer oriented tools for getting the best price, why should I or anyone else be subjected to salespeople trying to make you pay more to pad their salary?

IMPOV it's pretty rare that salespeople are commissioned any more in chain stores. Most stores that charge higher prices now are doing so to stay afloat by selling quantity since margins have dropped massively. There are less salespeople on the floor compared to a decade ago. For the most part, their incentive pay is based on quantity and add-ons instead of a small amount of high margin sales.
