I called the USPS 800 number to report my problem. I had to wait online for about 30 minutes but I did get a live person.

In my apt complex we have a separate mail room with individual locked slots and one would think our mail would be secure. . . perhaps it would be if the postal carrier placed our mail in the correct slot.

Unfortunately those who receive someone else's mail don't follow the rules; which is to place such mail in the outgoing mail slot to be re-delivered; instead they just set it on the counter in the mail room for anyone to pick up.

We used to have the same carrier for years who always correctly delivered our mail. He was transferred to another route and now we end up with a different carrier several times each week and they quickly just put the mail 'wherever'.

One day I saw online that my package had been delivered to the locked box in our mail room; I went over and the carrier was still there sorting mail. He said for me to go ahead and get my package but when I looked in my mail slot there wasn't a key to open the lockbox. Found out that he placed the key in someone else's mail slot! Had I not gone when he was there, my odds of the other tenant bringing the package to me were less than nil.
