Staples looks to be the latest to suffer a data breach, seems to be limited to the NorthEast US at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if it expands.

This is getting out of control.

It kind of makes you wonder if you're safe using a credit/debit card anywhere. The scary thing is that it can take weeks before the malware is detected, all the while it is stealing CC info from unsuspecting victims.

Bottom line, watch your credit card bills and bank statements very closely.

In most cases it's months that it goes undetected. I have alerts set up on all my accounts, pretty much any activity will result in an email notification.

We have 2 options: we can pay with only cash or we can watch our bills and bank statements very closely. Luckily Staples has said, they will not hold customers responsible for charges that are not theirs. obviously for most of us; all cash isn't an option or at least, let's us say, it just isn't convenient. We are a world of plastic and I don't see us changing.

They aren't doing that out of the goodness of their hearts, they don't have a choice in the matter. Just a statement to make themselves look good.
