Did you know that there is a move afoot by the states to get all the monies that are unspent from gift cards that people buy or get for returning items without receipts. This "pool" of money is in the billions.

I have a few myself. But I haven't even looked at them in months. But I do think they are still good. I do know that I cannot just walk into the store and ask for my money. So, who can use them?

You could most likely sell them at reduced value on craigslist or you could give them away on freecycle. I love to shop, I would be happy to take any unused gift cards

You can go into the stores and ask any salesperson to tell you what the balance is on your card there, then find something you need or want and buy it, no?

I'm sorry... I don't see how this can be true. In fact, the idea is rather ludicrous. Those... "monies" belong to the business that sold the gift card. Not sure how the state would be able to take that away. This is why businesses sell gift cards. In fact, only around 60% of all gift cards sold are ever redeemed, so in essence, these unredeemed gift cards are a very effective business loan of sorts until they are redeemed. If they're not ever redeemed, it's pure profit.

Your money? You didn't pay anything for that card. That's the business's money. Maybe you should respect the person that gave you this gift enough to actually use the card, or give it back to them so their money isn't wasted.

It's only the businesses money when you use the card. Gift card sales do not count towards a store's daily cash flow, but they do when they are redeemed.
