They Fisher Price toy you want for your child is available at, say - Target, for $39.00. Sears / K-Mart has it for $41.95. WalMart has it for $31.00.
There is no comparable toy to this one - it is a Fisher Price exclusive.
Where are you buying it?
OBTW, do you wear clothing? May I ask - where was it manufactured?

Yes, and almost of all of my clothing was made in the US. Lucky Brand jeans, American Apparel, All American Clothing:Jeans Made in USA, zebulonusa.com. My New Balance shoes were made in New England. I may pay a little bit more upfront but in reality I am saving because these clothes are of much higher quality and last much longer than the sweatsshop communist crap you buy at walmart.

Well, you still did not answer my Fisher Price question.
Personally, most of my clothing comes from Nordstroms, Lord and Tayor, Cole Hann, Hart, Shaftner and Marx and Levi Strauss. My wife loves Diane Friess dresses, Versace and Armani

See previous list and also Fisher-Price Recalls Bongo Band Toys Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard as well as Mattel Consumer Relations Answer Center - Recall Information. I really want to spend money on Fisher Price/Mattel toys for my kid. I wouldn't take one if you gave it to me for free. I can find an comparable American-made toy due to the wonder of this thing called the internet. Levi no longer manufactures any garments in the united states because they care more about making money then they do about American people. Did Levi's prices go down when they started manufacturing in other countries? Nope.
By the way, did you know that Toys R Us could barey keep their American made board games on the shelves this past holiday season due to all of the lead recalls? This means at least Americans are making a statement. Sign up for the CPSC Home Page (http://www.cpsc.gov - broken link) recall alerts. 98% of the items recalled for safety hazards are made in China. The only recalled American made product I have seen on there was a product made in the USA by Honda.
Coin Banks Recalled by TJ Promotions Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard
AAFES Recalls "Soldier Bear" Toys Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard (Believe me I can get lead free American made toy blocks VERY easily).

Well, thanks for the info. But, my Fisher Price example was merely hypothetical - I do not have any small children to buy for. I must say however, that, IMO, the "lead recall" is highly overblown - much to do about nothing.
As for American made goods - I can certainly appreciate your concerns and applaud your efforts to try to buy American made products. I must admit, we do not go thorough the same hoops - we simply buy the product / items that we want and that will provide us the quality and service we want. This is true even with our automobiles - the American mfgs (car) have not produced a good product for some time - IMO, the Unions have to bear some of the blame for this too -
Keep up the good work though but, don't blame Walmart for the worlds ills -

Walmart does have to take some of the blame though. They are the ones always looking for the "cheapest" products without much regard for quality. Since they are the largest retailer, some of the blame falls on them for these among other practices.
Many "foreign" cars are now made in the US (some even with union labor) and have been for a while. Sure people will argue the profits go to other countries, but Toyota, Honda, BMW, Mercedez and other companies contribute many jobs to the US work force, and not just with the cars either. Toyota buys most of its products for its American made cars in the US. Even Chrysler was temporarily German. I have never bought a brand new car, but I am prett yhappy with my Canadian made Buick And by the way, no amount, no matter how small, of lead, is safe for a child. Or anyone else.

Sorry but, IMO, your argument (rant really) holds little, or no, water.

My "argument" was not an argument at all. It was facts. You have the right to shop any place your little heart desires but think about who you are supporting when you turn that product upside down and read that all too familiar sticker.
I would not buy a Chinese peice of junk product no matter what store sold it. I do acknowledge there are some things in life that just are not made in American anymore so I have no choice. My only recourse is to lash out at those who are responsible for making that choice for me by supporting China and not America.
Ahhhh the high cost of low prices.

My kids grew up with lead solder, lead paint on walls, lead in floor tiles, lead gas etc - and they are just fine -
My foreign car is not produced here in the US. Your point however is well taken. However, those foreign makes assembled here are done so under the guidelines and processes developed by those manufacters - their quality programs are far better than our American Mfgs.
As for Walmart - no, I do not blame them one bit. They sell the very same products that the other stores sell - they buy them from the same sources - they come from the same manufactuers -
They are the "largest retailer" though good business competition -
No, I do not fault WalMart (Sam's) one little bit

You buy products made in China all the time. You also buy other foreign made goods all the time.
Blame? Blame the trade unions in this country to start - they priced labor so far out of reason that companies went elsewhere.
Blame? Blame our government in part for the outrageous government regulations that added so much cost to a company that it caused companies to throw up their hands and say - "we are outta here"

Walmart's purchasing department will quickly drop a vendor if they don't lower their prices or change things for them. That's where walmart's share of the blame comes in.
