What's worse for me is the late tv commercials for lawyers pimping people to contact them for using these medications so they can sue them and try to get you some money.

And why are they always in separate bath tubs?
Would you rather they bring back "BOB" and his wife?

People do, in fact, go clamor to their doctors. That's why the pharmaceutical companies have been reaping such profits.

You could start a campaign to get the FCC to rescind permission for TV ads, I suppose.

We have wonderful new drugs here for you to try out - but talk to your doctor because this can cause stroke or death but otherwise - make sure you tell your Doctor you want some of this (hurry before the FDA recalls it).

Seriously - why are they even allowed to market these prescription drugs to people directly? As though people are going to clamor to the Doctors asking for these drugs like they're buying tomatoes at the supermarket.

Anybody else bugged by this?
And as tired as I am with the ads, how about all the warnings; could cause this, side effects could be this and don't do take this if you have such and such.

I think we need to realize its a result of Boomers 26% of population getting older. We likely have seen anything of changes coming in marketing. That and weight loss for the overweight generation is where money is and will mean it continues.

Can't tell you how much these commercials annoy me. First of all, all that money the pharmaceutical companies pump into advertising, they pass it along to the consumer-as if meds are not expensive enough. The side effects they list are scarier than the thing their drug is supposed to cure. The one that cracks me up is for "Non-Drowsy Allegra" and one of the side effect is (you guessed it) drowsiness. Why call something "non-drowsy" when it will do just the opposite? And I would really love to know who decided that two people in separate bathtubs should be the logo for an ED "cure." Don't they know, that is not exactly how it is done if their pill does what it is supposed to do?

Most of those commercials are aimed at suckers...er...hypochondriacs. I really wish that if it is prescription drugs, they shouldn't try to sell them directly to the public. I don't have an issue with over-the-counter meds but when they keep telling you to "call your doctor to see if this is right for you," they should not be advertising it. And they didn't until 1997.

This is how it started:

Drug Ads on Television--How Did It Happen?
