I ordered a small dresser from an online company. They ship via an LTL (less than load) shipping company called MXD Group. The shipment left the manufacturer's site on April 27, sat in the local MXD warehouse until May 8, then made it across the country by May 10. Now it is going to sit in the warehouse there (300+ miles from me) until May 28.

This seems unreasonable to me: 5 weeks and $100 to ship a small dresser. I don't have a lot of experience with LTL shipping companies, though. Is this a standard wait and charge?

They ship to the next place as soon they get enough other items to make it worth their while.

Standard stuff... which is why I will never deal with that sort of shipper again!

Costco DID make good though. When I heard of my item languishing in a warehouse, I called Costco and threatened to cancel the order. They sent a truck out the next day (don't know what company and didn't care!) and got it delivered by day's end.

Agree. It's SOP. Had a similar situation where the promise date was missed. Had to call up the corporate ladder to find out that the item was sitting in a warehouse waiting for a truck to be heading in my direction. Item arrived two business days later with a 10% refund.

No, 5 weeks is not a normal transit time for a large LTL company (ABF, YRC, FedEx, UPS, OD, etc.). More normal would be 7 to 10 days ... going cross-country / 3,000 miles.

MXD appears to be a specialized company that does "white glove" delivery (as in they bring it to your house, unpack it and put it where you want it). It's unclear whether they actually have their own trucks or if they use other people's equipment. Their workforce is comprized of independent contractors, so you get what you pay for ... And $100 is pretty cheap, especially if it's truly white glove delivery.

When in doubt ... call and complain.

LTL shipments are not time sensative ..., usually we shipp LTL because it doesnt matter when the product get to the destination ... it also depends on the company shipping and the lanes they service ... it is probably sitting because they dont have enough freight to ship in that direction and are waiting to put a larger load together before dispatching a truck ..
always available for shipping LTL or TL 309-585-5911 Tripp
