In the Hampton Roads, VA area, the media post photos, taken from security videos, of suspected shoplifters and those suspected of using a stolen credit card. Has this become a common place practice in many areas?

I would suspect that this is an effective way of getting the public to id the suspect, especially when the photo is halfway decent. I have wondered what the success rate is. It also seems that an unusually high percentage of these photos involve individuals leaving Walmart.

They do the bank robbers, convenience store robbers, etc. here too. When those criminals are caught, it's reported in the news. But there is never follow-up in the media with the shop-lifter & credit card thief photos.

They do that here too. Post a black and white blurry photo of someone in a hoodie or baseball cap. "Have you seen this person"? Yup, looks like everyone from 18 to 56.

Oooh talk about a lawsuit waiting to happen. Unless you can prove through a tape that someone has stolen something it is hard enough to have them charged. But to put them on tv without the same proof... slander, libel anyone?

Often the photos posted here are pretty clear and in color. Judging from many of the photos, I suspect that the deed was caught on camera.
